The Best Vitamins for Hair Growth for Men and Women

Vitamins for hair growth are becoming more and more common as both male and female hair loss continues to rise. You may have seen the post on vitamin D deficiency and hair loss, in which case you may already be running out to load up a shopping cart full of vitamin D, but if you’re still here, great. You can consider this the bonus material.

Hair loss and hair growth are popular subjects, both for people experiencing the effects of balding or thinning and people who just want a thicker, healthier head of hair. I’m not going to pretend to have the miracle cure because there isn’t one, but what I do have is some information about a number of vitamins that may be linked to hair growth.

Vitamins for Hair Growth

1. Vitamin B

Vitamin B is popular in shampoo products and is thought to strengthen hair follicles and prevent hair loss. Dietary vitamin B is also thought to aid in preventing hair loss.

2. Zinc

Zinc deficiencies can lead to scalp problems which can be detrimental to hair health.

3. Vitamin A

It’s clear that vitamin A is extremely important, but there’s some evidence that overconsumption can lead to hair loss.

4. Protein

Protein makes up approximately 90% of the structure of hair and is important for hair growth. This fact may be especially relevant to people on high-carb diets.

5. Biotin

Biotin or vitamin H is another vitamin that has been found to prevent hair loss. It has also been found to prevent premature graying in some people.

6. Pantothenic Acid

Pantothenic acid is a mineral that has also been found to be associated with hair loss. Deficiency in Pantothenic acid may lead to a reduced capacity to grow hair.

7. Vitamin D

As mentioned in the article Vitamin D Deficiency and Hair Loss, vitamin D may have a strong influence on the hair-growth cycle.

Hair Growth and Hair Loss: The Whole Picture

I want to emphasize that while all of these products are associated with hair loss in some way or another, they may or may not help you individually. Hair loss is often genetic or related to deficiencies in your diet that supplements can’t always compensate for. My goal in these posts is to provide good information, not get you to buy something, so please don’t think that I’m saying all of the supplements listed will magically regrow your hair. If you want to give the hair fall vitamins a try, feel free, but just know that there are many other contributing factors.
